Gala Art-Google UX Certification Project
Redefining the Art Experience

Overview
Art galleries and museums often feel intimidating or overwhelming, especially for casual visitors and first-time art explorers.
Existing platforms lack personalization, making it difficult for users to discover art styles or artists aligned with their tastes.
Challenges
The challenge was to design an experience that:
Feels welcoming and intuitive
Helps users discover art based on personal interests
Presents artworks in a visually immersive way
Goals
The primary goal of Gala Art was to create a calm, curated art discovery experience that feels personal rather than overwhelming.
Design objectives
Encourage users to explore art without prior knowledge
Personalize content through interest selection
Keep the interface minimal so the art remains the focus
Build emotional connection through visual storytelling
Research
Instead of deep academic research, this project relied on visual and experiential research, including:
Observing how users browse art on platforms like Pinterest, Instagram, and online galleries
Analyzing minimalist editorial layouts and modern gallery websites
Studying popular art gallery and museum apps

User Journey Map
This journey map captures how a casual art explorer interacts with Gala Art, from first discovery to long-term engagement, highlighting key emotions, pain points, and design opportunities at each stage.
I identified the users’ pain spots, disappointments, and places for improvement after getting to know their personalities and their activities.

Competitive Analysis Findings
An in-depth review of existing art and museum platforms helped identify recurring patterns, strengths, and experience gaps that informed the design direction of this app.
Key Observations
Art discovery is often feature-rich but not intuitive
Personalization exists, but is usually introduced too late in the user journey
Information is detailed, yet quick context is often missing
Offline access and seamless exploration are limited or absent
Most competitors focus on content-heavy experiences, often overwhelming first-time users
Opportunities Identified
Art discovery is often feature-rich but not intuitive
A simpler, visually led discovery flow inspired by real gallery visits
Early interest-based personalization to curate relevant artworks from the start
Clear, bite-sized artwork information without disrupting immersion
A calmer interface that prioritizes art over controls
Design that balances exploration, education, and inspiration

Information Architecture (IA)
The goal is to arrange content in a way that makes it easy for users to become familiar with the product’s use and locate anything they need quickly.
Design principles:
Neutral backgrounds to let artwork stand out
Clean typography with strong readability
Soft spacing and alignment inspired by physical galleries
Minimal UI elements to avoid distraction

Visual Design Direction
The visual language of Gala Art is subtle and gallery-inspired.

Iterations is a must before final visuals
Letting content drive design decisions
Designing for feeling, not just function
Next Steps
If extended further, the project could include:
Save & collection features
Exhibition-based browsing
Social sharing and community interaction
Artist profiles and stories
